The HPX-1600 family features the versatile HPXView element manager GUI for local and remote node management, user-defined monitoring, and rapid configuration and deployment. All power and interface terminations are provided on the front panel - which also offers status and additional diagnostic displays. Advanced availability features and enhanced power management maximize reliability and service availability. The entire HPX-1600 family is based on an innovative software-driven architecture that protects your investment by providing a direct upgrade path to feature and performance enhancements over the life of the product. Software upgrades for the chassis and all of the installed Interface Modules are applied via an automated, one-step upgrade process that can be initiated from a central location to all Haliplex nodes in the network. Configuration changes can be applied without a system reboot.
Management and Operation
The HPX-1600 series comprises advanced architectures for operations, administration, management and provisioning. In addition to direct serial cable connection, the platform supports management via an Ethernet connection, over a DS0 to the management network, or PPP connectivity over the DCC. Security for PPP implementation includes PAP and CHAP authentication with configurable D byte usage. Once established, an IP channel allows HPXView connectivity to the node, plus SNMP configuration and fault management. Full configuration support through the rich Haliplex enterprise MIB provides a mechanism for operation under non Haliplex Element Management Software (EMS) and Network Management Software (NMS) systems such as HP OpenView. The platform also performs periodic rolling window performance object logging via syslog. These features allow HPXView to be deployed into existing frameworks where KPIs have been predefined.

In a departure from the conventional command line management approach, Haliplex is proud to present its intuitive graphical user interface, HPXView. This industry leading software empowers operators to realize the full market potential of their service with the economy of remote management and diagnostics. Windows-driven and compatible with concurrent SNMP software, HPXView also includes Haliplex's revolutionary Digital Access Cross Connect Switch (DACS). HPXView features real time visual display of front panel status, performance and fault statistics. HPX-View's Configuration Backup and Restore functionality lends itself to a "cookie-cutter" approach to configuring and managing multiple nodes. HPXView features a real time visual display of node status, and gathers performance and fault statistics from all connected HPX-800 or HPX-1600 platforms.
Availability and Protection
The HPX-1600-SS achieves optimal functionality and redundancy, whilst maintaining its Edge Market price point. Uninterrupted availability provisions include:
Processor-independent data paths
Hot-swappable Interface Modules
Uptime deployable IM software updates
Distributed power architecture to remove heat and stress
Advanced platform protections include:
SONET/SDH UPSR/SNCP and 1+1 (MSP) trunk protection
E1/T1, E3/DS3, M13/E13 port protection
Stratum 3 internal clocking with revertive mode, and infinite holdover without clock slipping
External clocking from any E1/T1, Codirectional, E3/DS3, Tributary Unit & optical fiber tributary or trunk
Lightning and Surge protection on E1/T1, E3/DS3, Codirectional, G-SHDSL and Voice interfaces
SONET/SDH to the Network Edge
The HPX-1600-SS is a truly global solution for SDH/SONET multi-service access applications at up to STM-1/OC-3 bandwidth. In addition to delivering a wide range of Ethernet, E1/T1, E3/DS3, serial data, and voice services, the platform's Digital Access Cross Connect Switch (DACS) and Channel Bank support effortless service management and configuration. The HPX-1600-SS delivers integrated SDH/SONET transmission on dual 155Mbps fiber connections for both ring and point-to-point topologies. An integrated channel bank allows mapping of E1/T1 circuits to any STM-1/OC-3 payload, and an integrated 1024x1024x64Kbps DACS provides grooming capabilities down to the DS0 level. The HPX-1600-SS is the ideal platform for extending wideband IP services across existing SDH/SONET networks. The platform reserves two module spaces for optical trunk interfaces, and 14 spaces for the flexible implementation of highly configurable data, Ethernet, and voice trunk or tributary circuits. As a modular solution for the network edge, the HPX-1600-SS achieves the economic advantages of a combined Add/Drop Multiplexer and DACS in a single, consolidated unit.
