Management

Haliplex platforms comprise advanced architectures for operations, administration, management and provisioning. In addition to direct serial cable connection, the 1600 platforms support management via an Ethernet connection, over a DS0 to the management network, or PPP connectivity over the DCC. Security for PPP implementation includes PAP and CHAP authentication with configurable D byte usage. The HPX 800 also supports management via a front panel USB. Once established, an IP channel allows HPXView connectivity to the node, plus SNMP configuration and fault management.

Auto Detection and Configuration

The node automatically detects inserted Interface Modules (IMs) and applies a default configuration. When inserted, an IM is automatically configured with factory default settings which are written to the slot memory, and an image of the IM is displayed on the interface. When the IM is removed, the configured IM type remains in ghosted view and the IM description is recorded in the slot name area. If the slot is filled with a different IM type, the mismatch will be indicated by a change in color of the slot and configured IM image. When the installed module matches the configured module type, the interface module boots and the active configuration is represented graphically. Holding the mouse over the interface slot image displays a "mouse over" information box that contains the status, configuration and status of interface modules. Each IM has alarm parameters that may be set by the network administrator. The most severe alarm level that is currently active on a node is displayed on the front panel of the node and at the top left of the HPXView screen as "System Status".

Digital Access Cross Connect Switching (DACS)

The Haliplex Digital Access Cross-Connect Switch (DACS) is a standard HPX View feature. The DACS is used to groom voice interfaces and serial data for simplex (one-way) or duplex (two-way) cross connects in multiples of DS0 (nx64Kbps) into composite E1 or T1 trunks for local termination or transport over a High Speed Optic trunk. HPX View places the power of network management in the hands of even the uninitiated user - with graphical interfacing and drag and drop functionality, cross connection is just a mouse click away.

Upgrade

The HPX View Upgrade utility simplifies the task of loading embedded software including additional device drivers for newly installed interfaces. Software upgrades are released on a regular schedule as Service Packs under the Haliplex Service Pack Program for registered users and preferred partners. Each Service Pack contains all of the embedded software for the node as well as the corequisite graphical management software for HPX View. For more information about the Haliplex Service Pack Program, view our Support pages.
