Melbourne, Australia - 8 October 2007 - Haliplex Pty Ltd, a leading developer of Utility network solutions, today announced an account win with Malaysia's foremost light rail operator, Rapid KL. The project will employ Haliplex's HPX-1600 Multi Service Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs) to manage the transmission of mission critical data along Kuala Lumpur's Ampang line.
Established in 1999, Haliplex designs and manufactures modular optical multiplexers that protect investment in SDH/SONET technologies, extend the life of legacy TDM infrastructure, and provide a pay-as-you grow migration to the Next Generation Network. Haliplex's customers include many of the world's most progressive rail, power and mining companies.
In a media briefing today, Haliplex Chief Executive Officer, Richard Cookes, explained that the HPX-1600 will provide an end-to-end aggregation and transport solution for Rapid KL's advanced network.
"Haliplex has focused its world leading R&D resources on tailoring communications solutions to the requirements of Transport and Utility operators. The HPX-1600 platform, which has been chosen for the Rapid KL project, supports: train signaling, SCADA, telemetry, ticketing systems, video surveillance, telephone lines, high speed internet, public address systems, and passenger information display systems - all from platforms the size of a standard DVD player." Cookes explained.
"Managing this broad palette of services using competitor equipment would necessitate a rack full of equipment at each network point, increasing the costs associated with Standard Operating Environment (SOE) deployments, as well as the associated expenses of rental, power consumption, management and maintenance."
"Our modular platforms eradicate these outmoded inefficiencies by offering the smallest; most highly featured Utility focused multiplexers in their class.
"Rapid KL required a solution that would protect and enhance their substantial investment in traditional TDM based services with the option to provision future-focused IP-based technologies; the modular HPX-1600 offers a wide selection of low and high speed interface modules that can be implemented 'on demand' as new services are required. Haliplex has been able to provide Rapid KL with peace of mind by future proofing their communications infrastructure." Cookes said.
Mr. Cookes explained that the safety of millions of Rapid KL commuters depends on the availability of the network to transport video surveillance, emergency phone services, public address capabilities and low speed data for signaling and train controls.
"The HPX 1600's availability and protection measures have met and surpassed Rapid KL's requirements by offering: trunk protections, tributary protections, controller-independent data paths and Haliplex's own graphical management software HPXView. The ease of management achieved by graphical interfacing allows Rapid KL engineers to remotely configure, manage and monitor the status of all Haliplex devices on the network from a central control facility, ensuring system integrity and passenger safety.
"Admitting Rapid KL to our growing South East Asian customer base positions Haliplex as a regional leader in transport communications." Mr. Cookes said.
