Melbourne, Australia - 20 November 2007 - Haliplex Pty Ltd, a leading developer of utility network solutions, has partnered with systems integrator, Controles Comunicaciones, to secure a major communications upgrade with Argentina's premier power company, Ente Provincial de Energia del Neuquen (EPEN). The South American power utility has installed Haliplex's flagship product, the HPX-1600 Multi Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP), as part of a project to supply electrical energy to a critical petroleum site, jointly operated by Chevron, Petrobras and Repsol YPF.

In a media briefing today Haliplex CEO, Richard Cookes, described EPEN's HPX-1600 installation.

"The HPX-1600 has provided EPEN with a PDH/SDH/IP multiplexing solution that integrates with legacy equipment and ushers in a staged migration to higher value services. The Haliplex platforms will be used to transport data for EPEN's voice communications, video surveillance, SCADA, fast Ethernet, LAN bridging, and teleprotection." Cookes said.

"EPEN will use Haliplex's graphical EMS/NMS software, HPXView for remote management from any windows based terminal on the network. HPXView will replace a fixed-location, command line system, greatly reducing deployment and maintenance expenses.

"Cookes, who last week returned from a world tour of customer and partner sites, explained that the utility communications market is entering a new stage of growth, driven in part by demand for more effective, flexible video surveillance.

"Comprehensive video surveillance has emerged as a growing priority for utility operators and this means adding further capacity at remote sites. Rather than replacing entire networks to meet this surveillance requirement, operators are looking at ways to easily integrate additional E1 or fast Ethernet capacity" Cookes said.

"The Haliplex HPX-1600 meets this requirement by providing both a broad range of traditional utility focused TDM modules, including those dedicated to low speed data for camera control, and scalable high speed Ethernet over a SDH/SONET network." Cookes explained.

Cookes stated that the Argentinean win has furthered Haliplex's reputation as a specialist in utility communications.

I am delighted to be associated with EPEN; a company in the vanguard of the renewable energy movement. I believe this association further solidifies Haliplex's reputation as a leader in utility communications." Cookes said.

EPEN is just one of a growing list of utility companies that has chosen Haliplex over vendors who have historically dominated this space. Haliplex has now secured major utility account wins in: North America, South America, Canada, Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia.
