Haliplex Announces U.S. Debut of First Global Multi-Service Access Platform for SONET and SDH Networks

Haliplex Pty. Ltd., a leading vendor of innovative network edge access products, today announced the U.S. availability of HPX1600-SS, a powerful SONET/SDH edge access platform that delivers Ethernet, Serial Data, Voice and traditional TDM services in private fiber, service aggregation and protected ring applications.  At a price point that significantly extends the economic reach of fiber networks, it creates significant new revenue opportunities for network operators. The HPX-1600-SS combines the functionality of an ADM, a channel bank and a digital cross connect in one powerful, modular 1RU package. The product is delivered with SONET and SDH compliant capabilities, offering a single product solution for global market reach.

“The HPX1600-SS is an enhanced repackaging of the HPX300-SS that we have been shipping since mid-2002,” said Haliplex Chief Operating Officer David Drew. “Our customers have strongly validated our SS product strategy and have integrated it seamlessly into their existing SONET and SDH infrastructures. They asked for higher module density and Ethernet ports configurable from n x DS0 to n x DS3. We delivered all of this in the HPX1600-SS, at significantly lower price points, thanks to the design and manufacturing advances we were able to achieve with the 1600-SS.”

The operational advantages of the HPX1600-SS are driven by extensive field experience across the Haliplex product line.  Interface modules, each of which has an independent power regulator to increase systems reliability, can be hot-swapped. Chassis and interface configuration, including cross-connect, are managed remotely via IP using HPXView – a powerful Windows-based graphical element manager. In addition, configuration changes can be applied without a reboot and pre-packaged configuration files can be downloaded for rapid error-free deployment.

“When planning for a mix of traditional and Ethernet services for the rapidly expanding Petro Fibre Network (PFN), flexibility, reliability and simple management were important criteria in our fibre ring architecture,” said Azhar Ahmad, manager, planning at PFN, Malaysia’s national oil and global petrochemical giant. “We have used Haliplex products for more than two years, and their SS access node gave us exactly the capability we needed for our fibre infrastructure. We are now delivering TDM, voice, and telemetry services from our fibre backbone, and extending the use of the product to subtend service pops for new and existing customers throughout the country.”
