RAIL
Rail network managers are charged with the task of protecting the safety of passengers, improving
communications between staff, and supporting business applications such as video telephony,
voice recording and unified messaging. Haliplex Multi Service Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs)
provide complete communication solutions for today's rail environment, offering reliable, high
speed transport of mission critical data in diversified networks. Deployment of Haliplex platforms helps
network operators to achieve communications and network savings through improved efficiency.
CAPEX OPEX
Consolidation allows operators to build complete networks
with a single platform, substantially reducing
CAPEX and OPEX
Railway Environments typically require the transmission of high and low speed data including:
- Telephone systems
- Passenger Help and Emergency Help Points (PH/PEHP)
- Public Address (PA) systems
- Operational Radio System (ORS) infrastructure
- Passenger Information Systems (PIS)
- Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
- Train Positioning and Detection Systems (TPDS)
- Ticket Vending Machines
- Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems
The management of these services often requires a rack full of equipment at each
network point, which increases the expense associated with Standard Operating
Environment (SOE) deployments, as well as the associated expenses of rental,
power consumption, management and maintenance. Haliplex eradicates these outmoded
inefficiencies by offering the smallest, most highly featured multiplexers in their class.
Maximal consolidation allows operators to build complete networks with a single platform,
substantially reducing CAPEX and OPEX.
In addition, Haliplex platforms offer a raft of network services that extend beyond the core
requirements of rail operators, including teleprotection, PBX, customer hotspots, hotline
applications and emergency phones, customer service (billing, tagging and tracking),
enterprise overlap services (voice, video, data, IP), private microwave, and remote site peripheral support.

Remote Sites - Centralized Management
The expanse of rail networks demands remote management and comprehensive alarms,
diagnostic capabilities and controls. In a departure from the conventional command line management
approach, Haliplex has responded to this need with its intuitive graphical user interface,
HPXView. Windows driven and compatible with SNMP management software, the GUI facilitates
monitoring of alarms and equipment status. Remote equipment configuration capabilities are provided through
Haliplex's Digital Access Cross Connect Switch (DACS). Using the DACS, Interface Modules are instantly
configured and remotely managed through point-and-click, drag-and-drop interfacing which saves
truck rolls and hours of technician time.

Through remote connection, system modifications can be instantly configured through
a simple, fail-safe graphical interface, taking the hassle, complexity and time inefficiency
out of high priority network management. ”

OLD AND NEW

Rail Operators worldwide install Haliplex MSPPs empowering flexibility
Haliplex platforms cross connect, transport and aggregate all services from
multiple sites over PDH, SDH/SONET and IP networks, achieving connectivity over copper, fiber
and wireless. The platforms offer the flexibility of multiple topologies including daisy chain,
star and ring making them perfectly suited for any railway network.
At the station site level, Haliplex MSPPs seamlessly integrate and connect all typical railway
services to the local control room. In this way equipment requirements are consolidated and services
can be centrally managed with less complexity and greater reliability.
Migration of Legacy Equipment
For many rail operators the cost of laying new fiber to meet increasing bandwidth requirements
is part of a long term plan but remains prohibitively expensive in the short term. As a result,
most railway networks continue to operate over their existing copper infrastructure. Haliplex
understands this necessity and utilizes SHDSL technology to leverage the maximum performance and
range from copper lines. Haliplex MSPPs also operate over fiber optics and wireless, and can be
implemented as part of any existing network, providing a future proofed solution to the incremental
migration of legacy equipment.

Haliplex platforms offer high availability and protection at the industries most attractive price point
Superior railway operation has become heavily reliant on uninterrupted network service.
Haliplex's compact MSPPs offer outstanding availability and protection including: trunk protections,
tributary protections, maintenance efficiency for maximum up time, controller-independent data paths
and superior physical design (clocking, power, remote management) for uncompromised performance.
These compact platforms require an absolute minimum of space, cooling, and UPS draw, but are robust
enough to weather the harshest climates and temperatures. Built to revolutionize the traditional CAPEX OPEX
cost paradigm, Cost effective Haliplex platforms afford network operators to implement redundancy
in the form of a hot standby platform.
Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
Railway operators install Haliplex MSPPs in their
networks to optimize efficiency, availability and flexibility. Haliplex platforms can be implemented
as part of any existing railway network and offer operators the ability to remotely manage the
transmission of mission critical services including voice, data, LAN and security traffic.
Achieving connectivity over copper, fiber and wireless technologies, Haliplex solutions allow
operators to increase the performance of legacy equipment today whilst provisioning for expansion
and modernization in the future.
